ENGLISH LANGUAGE CHALLENGES Hi, I hope that you are all well and that you have a good closing of the semester, good cheer! This is the last blog that I will publish for now since we are finishing the semester, my experience learning english at university has been much better than at school since I did not have a good learning process in this matter, when I was little I went in a school where I was not very good in english and when I changed to another all my classmates already spoke it so I stayed behind. The first year of university due to personal problems I could not take this subject but in the second I could take them without problem and I learned a lot, unfortunately this year has been very difficult for me so I could not give the necessary attention to this subject. I really enjoyed writing the blogs because they are a fun and dynamic way to learn english, although there were a couple of days that I had a lot of tests  in other subjects so I was a day or two late in p...

Changes to my Study programme  I find it interesting to talk and reflect on this topic of the curriculum. I am a third year student of Social Work and what strikes me the most about the first years of study is that we see many different subjects, for example, history, philosophy , sociology, anthropology, psychology, etc. And although I like this variety, I have always wondered if the other careers in the social sciences have a subject called "Social Work”. Also due to this variety of branches in the first 2 years of the degree they do not teach us much about Social Work, so it happens sometimes that it is only in the third year that you realize that you do not like social work and another thing that I find interesting to mention is that we read theories mostly from the West and not from Latin America, being that it is our reality, in addition 95% of the time we have to read male writers, being that currently there are many women recognized worldwide. Regarding co-curricular activ...

Postgraduate Studies Hi, I hope you are well despite the pandemic and all the conflicts that it can generate. Many times I have wondered what I could study after finishing my career in Social Work, first of all I would do a childhood course since that is what I would like to work on when I finish university, I am also thinking of doing a master's degree since in 5to year we have the option of taking it, which means that the first year of master's is would cover with the "Gratuidad", something that would be very good for me and I think I should take advantage of it. A dream that I have always had is also to study history since I have always liked this subject and it was one of my options when I entered a university career, I would study this career at the University of Chile or at the University of Santiago. Honestly, I don't care where to study, since the two options of studying in Chile or abroad seem good to me, although knowing other countries and cultures sou...

My future job Many times I have thought about what my job will be. I would like to have a job related to social work, which is what I am currently studying, I would also like to work with vulnerable children and adolescents since in my opinion to improve a society you must start from childhood.  I do not like offices, they make me feel locked up and trapped, it is for this reason that my dream would be to work in the field, together with the community since this way you can share with people and see realities different from yours, I would also very much like to travel practicing my profession, in fact my idea is when I finish my degree to join a volunteer service and travel through Latin America helping people. Salary has never been an issue for me, I would not mind making little money as long as I am happy and do what I like, I just need to survive in a good way. I am studying Social Work because I like history, helping people and defending social justice and human rights, as I sa...

Movies Since I was little I always loved watching movies, I watched movies on VHS or sometimes we would rent them to Blockbuster, when I grew up we would go with my grandfather to a fair in Puente Alto where they sold them pirated, there we could see many movies at a low price. We also liked going to the movies, in fact the first movie I saw in 3D was "Nightmare before Christmas", it was surprising. I really like cinema because you can see different realities or different worlds, you can also have a fun time with your friends or family, movies fill you with different emotions and you can live adventures through the characters. I like to watch films of different genres, but the ones I love the most are drama and historical films, since one can feel part of the story. A film that marked me a lot in life was “Les Miserables”, a musical released in 2012 and based on the novel by Victor Hugo. The film shows the story of Jean Valjean, a former thief on the run who adopts a little ...

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO AFTER THIS QUARANTINE? Me and my family have been expending a lot of time together, and sometimes it is difficult because of the different personalities that we have, but also have been a good experience, because we are learning to know each other and to grow our patience. Also, we as a family have been reflecting on how this pandemic is going to change our country and the world forever, and what we can do to help, and this is a very important thing that can make a growth in our society, because after this pandemic the world is going to need people that help others. The activities that I have rediscovered during the time being in my house have been cooking, because I am vegan and my family is not, so I see myself in the need start doing more food for me, and, I have rediscovered riding my bike, because I try not to get on the subway to avoid getting infected with covid.  My studies have become a problem because I really like to go to the university and ...

THE BEST HOLIDAYS I have had many wonderful vacations, either with my family or friends, but without a doubt the best vacation I had was when I traveled the Austral highway backpacking, this was in February 2018 and it was with my brother and my dad. The Austral highway is in the south of Chile, there are hundreds of kilometers of beautiful landscapes, we spent 10 days traveling, we were in different places such as in Coyhaique, in Puerto Aysén, in the General Carrera lake, in the Marble Cathedrals, etc. We also crossed by bicycle to Argentina to visit a town called Chile Chico, but without a doubt one of the most incredible activities we experienced was doing a 4 day trekking at Cerro Castillo since it is a beautiful and intense place jajaja. We saw many beautiful landscapes and met many people, that is one of the things I like the most when backpacking, the camaraderie that exists between backpackers, you will never get bored on your tour!. I must admit that at one point I just ...
